una de las 4 bandas clásicas del Jazz Fusión. Liderada por Chick Corea,
uno de los teclistas más importantes en la historia del jazz, que ha
influenciado a cientos de excelentes pianistas (por ejemplo a Hiromi )
Si bien son descendientes de Miles Davis, para su sexto disco, Romantic Warrior, terminaron de consolidar un sonido propio. Con su formación clásica, con Al Di Meola en guitarra, Stanley Clarke en bajo, Lenny White en batería, y Chick Corea en teclados. Una super-banda, como pocas. Como ninguna.

El sonido de
Romantic Warrior es complejísimo, vertiginoso, mágico. Con un talento
desorbitante de Al Di Meola (un guitarrista favorito de todos lo que lo
conocen, simplemente porque es irresistible) y con el particular toque
fusión de Chick Corea en sus teclas. Stanley Clarke es el prototipo de
bajista de jazz fusión, no hay con que darle, tal vez no luce como Jaco
Pastorius, pero hay que escuchar lo que hace y maravillarse,
entendiéndose (por algo después tocaron juntos toda la vida) con Stanley
Clarke como si estuviesen conectados por algún puente neuronal.
Pocas bandas combinan tan bien dos cosas que ya estando separadas atraen: talento y emoción, en un disco icónico en el Jazz como pocos.

Dreams Of Sanity - Komödia
Dreams Of Sanity fue una banda austriaca de Gothic Metal fundada en
1991. Solamente lanzaron tres álbumes antes de separarse en 2002, aunque
en la red circula un bootleg del concierto que la banda ofreció el 28
de agosto de 1999 en México. Cabe destacar que Sandra Schleret, actual
vocalista de Siegfried, banda austriaca de Symphonic/Gothic Metal, quien
grabó los 3 discos, a excepción del álbum Komödia, que comparte
créditos con Martina Astner, es, a mi parecer, una de las mejores voces
limpias femeninas dentro del género, basta escuchar su estremecedora voz
para que te transporte a un mundo de oscuridad, amor, tristeza y
locura.

Antimatter – Fear Of A Unique Identity (Deluxe Edition) (2012)
Los británicos Antimatter vienen promocionando su quinto disco de estudio, ‘Fear Of A Unique Identity‘. El grupo fue creado hace ya quince años por Mick Moss y Duncan Patterson (bajista original de Anathema), y también han grabado con Danny Cavanagh.
Definen su estilo como dark gothic acoustic electro rock, aunque en
este tema que han escogido lo que recibimos es pura melancolía hecha
música.
Antimatter nos presentan su nuevo trabajo Fear of a Unique Identity,
donde siguen dando continuidad a su propuesta elegante y llena de
sentimiento, digamos que es una versión rockera (o más guitarrera, para
entendernos) de Anathema.

Premiata Forneria Marconi - Stati Di Immaginazione
El décimo cuarto disco de la banda y el primer disco puramente
instrumental de PFM, fue una sorpresa total ya que no me esperaba que
fuera tan bueno! La razón principal por la cual desconfiaba fuertemente
de este disco fue la triste partida de "Flavio Premoli" en el 2005. Mi
rechazo fue tal que solamente escuche el disco un año después de su
lanzamiento, y debo decir que me equivoqué en mi previsión.
Antes que nada el tecladista invitado Gianluca Tagliavini es un gran músico e hizo una ejecución maestra en este disco, me sorprendió el nivel y la "musicianship" lograda en este disco aun sin ser parte de la formación original de las cuatro leyendas del rock sinfónico italiano. El trabajo de Lucio Fabbri en este disco es muy especial también.
No se como se les ocurrió esta magnífica idea de grabar un disco instrumental con lo que yo consideraba más deslumbrante de la banda que eran sus armoniosas melodías en los instrumentales de las canciones mejores logradas, este disco reúne estas partes y las transforma en canciones agradables con buena duración y momentos únicos.
Es la última gran joya que escuche de PFM, espero que les guste!

Lagartija - Particelle
Con
sinceridad les digo que este disco llegó a mis oídos gracias a su
portada. No conocía a esta banda italiana, sabía que tocaban progresivo
con un filtro moderno por lo poco que leí de ellos, pero fue la portada
la que me convenció a escucharlos. Quería tener en mi colección de
portadas de álbumes de rock a la de esta bella chica fumando en un
escampado.
Particelle
(2011) el segundo disco de esta joven agrupación italiana me llevo a
una buena sorpresa musical. La música sin duda esta plagada de
influencias de progresivo y jazz que más bien sirven como arreglos para
unas composiciones que en su médula son más bien de corte popero. Para
que les haga sentido, es el tipo de música que podrías ponerle a tu
novia, que te deje a ti satisfecho escuchando buena música al mismo
tiempo para no molestarla ella, e incluso en una de esas le puede
agradar.
Es
decir, música muy bien hecha que puede atraer a oídos curtidos y
exigentes y llamar la atención de aquellos oídos desprevenidos y
atiborrados por la terrible música que se suele escuchar en el día a
día. Composiciones bien hechas y muy agradables, interesantes pasajes
solistas, sobre todo del saxofonista. Un art-rock parecido a Paatos (es
mujer la cantante, pero no es la chica de la portada) y a los últimos
discos de Landberk.

El 1er álbum de estudio (^) de ABSENTE H —grupo español compuesto por Alfonso PAZOS (bajo), María SÁNCHEZ (violín, coros), Víctor GARCÍA (guitarra), Juan Pedro MIRALLES (teclados), María José IZQUIERDO (flauta, teclados, coros), David PÉREZ (voces) y Jesús GONZÁLEZ
(batería)— se desenvuelve en un estilo de sonido claramente progresivo
sinfónico, con destellos jazz y un poco de folclor. Y aunque nada de
esto se acredita, las influencias musicales que presenta "Vagalume"
pueden ser tan evidentes como el 'ta-ra-ráaaa' ('Toccata y fuga en d')
de BACH, tan entendibles como las atmósferas constantes y densas de KING CRIMSON, tan sutiles como las tonalidades dulces de Thijs van LEER y tan improbables como el guitarreo en solitario de Jaakko KETTUNEN de OVERHEAD, todo presentado en los intrincados arreglos musicales de Víctor GARCÍA.
De los 10 temas que componen el disco sólo uno es 100% instrumental (el
10) y la autoría de las letras se reparte entre los miembros de la
banda, sobre todo María José IZQUIERDO, exceptuando 'Hora tras hora' que está basado en un poema de Rosalba de CASTRO y 'Yo no lo sé' que escribe, curiosamente, VAGALUME. Seguramente esta canción la escribieron antes de llamarse ABSENTE H.
En el facebook de la banda dice que las canciones de ABSENTE H
están plagadas de melodías envolventes […] creando pasajes que nos
pueden transportar a la tranquilidad más absoluta llena de detalles
minúsculos, o a la explosión más rotunda donde se conjugan sentimientos,
fuerza, expresión y sensibilidad (1). Es cierto. Lo que no se había
dicho en ningún sitio hasta ahora, es que ABSENTE H nos
regala, con su debut, un álbum sólido y deseoso por destacar entre las
bandas que hacen buen rock progresivo, echándole cerebro a la escritura y
ejecutando con soltura cada acorde. Me parece que les falta ecumenismo
musical, pero también estoy seguro de encontrarme frente a uno de los
cinco estrenos más sobresalientes del 2011.
