La verdad amigos que creí que escribir sobre este notable músico era fácil, la mayoría lo conocemos por su participación en King Crimson, pero este tipo es más que eso, un excelente guitarrista antes que todo, considerado además como uno de los pocos que ha aportado en explorar los recursos de la guitarra eléctrica desde J. Hendrix hasta ahora.

Todo un creador con más de 25 años de carrera artística y casi como un camaleón y sin importar el tipo de música ha sido capáz de trabajar en los más diversos proyectos paralelos a su eje. Y con verdadero gusto establece vasos comunicantes entre el pop comercial y el rock experimental, entre la acústica y la electrónica, entre el empleo normado de la guitarra y su reverso.

Su primer trabajo de relevancia lo hizo formando parte de la banda de Frank Zappa para el álbum Sheik yerbouti (1979), y acto seguido fue convocado, en rápida sucesión, por David Bowie y Talking Heads: lo más parecido a una entrada por la puerta ancha en los ámbitos musicales de ese período. Si Zappa lo acercó al minucioso rigor interpretativo, con el cantante inglés conoció los secretos de un pop que ensayaba fórmulas de reanimación, mientras la tropa de David Byrne enriqueció su lado lúdico y visceral. De todos modos, el gran salto vino en 1982 al integrar King Crimson, colectivo con el que ha permanecido en sus múltiples reformaciones desde entonces.
